Training Update & a Family Favorite

Just a quick update on my triathlon training ... really for my own record ;) Monday I ran 2.75 miles. Tuesday I biked 8 miles. Wednesday I ran 3 miles. Tonight I FORCED myself onto the treadmill for 2 miles ... made myself go 2.1 for good measure. I honestly believe it was the hardest 2 miles I have ever run! Could be because I normally get it out of the way in the morning and I was doing it at night after a full day ... could be the HUGE lunch we ate at Chili's this afternoon after going to the temple ... could be the TOTAL lack of motivation I was feeling tonight .... whatever it was I am glad I did SOMETHING today - even if I thought it might kill me! I really need to get to the pool but I am planning to start training at the pool with a group of people who train regularly for triathlons. There is a professional triathlete who trains them so I know it will help to get me far better prepared in the pool. I met him yesterday and he is really nice ... and totally out there to help those who want it (without being critical - just what I need)!! He trains these people for FREE so it will be great to pick his brain and ask all of the questions that I have. He's trying to convince me I should buy a triathlon one piece suit but I'm pretty sure I should spare the world from having to see me in that much spandex!!!

Now to the favorite ... we love to make smoothies in our house. Only one, really, but it's a favorite! The Caribbean Passion smoothie from Jamba Juice is my all time fave. I have a girlfriend who used to work there and shared the recipe!! Now we make them all the time and the kids feel extra special when they get one :) I must add here that I use a Magic Bullet for making mine. I honestly don't use it for anything else (unlike the infomercial that shows you can make ANYTHING with it) but I adore it for smoothies!!

12 oz. Passionfruit Juice
2 scoops orange sherbet
1 cup peaches
1 cup strawberries

I've gotten to the point where I can eyeball it and know exactly how much to use in the Bullet, but the measurements give you a good ratio to start with. I've done a blender full just keeping the proportions the same. I used to add ice but it doesn't fit as well in the Bullet and tastes just as good without it so now I don't even bother! Let me know what you think if you try it ... perfect for those upcoming summer days :)

P.S. Please note that is 4 posts in 4 days!!! And Friday is the last day to leave your comments for the 2 giveaways I've got going on ... loving your answers on the ice cream quiz!!

Ok, you got to stop with the food stuff. Last night I woke up with really red and itchy eyes. Got up to get an ice cube to rub on my eyes. Went back to the freezer and grabbed my mint marble soy ice cream and ate 1/3 rd of it sitting on the toilet so that I wouldn't bother Burton with the light (our bathroom is the only room with a door in our home!!!). Is that too much information? :-)
Make sure you also allow your body to rest and recover from the workouts or you'll burn yourself out. And Stretch, stretch, stretch!Great job! Aloha, Sarah

Looks yummy!!!! I'll have to give it a try even though I don't have a magic bullet.

Keep up the great work on your training. I'm proud of you!

Love ya!

Once upon a time, I thought I was going to do a marathon - but I've since lost the fervor for this endeavor. It's overrated, right? But a triathlon. That's a good goal, Kari. I'll be sending lots of strength and prayers your way!

Kari you crack me up. You are more critical of yourself than you should be. I am impressed that you are following thru and keeping up with your training. Your bullets look & sound yummy too. I will let you know how it is when I make it.
You GO girl!

Kari,
My hubby's training for a triathlon two! He has two coming up this summer. Sounds like you're doing really well :)

Carribean Passion is my favorite too! I always sub the orange sherbet with Pineapple Sherbet. You should give it a try, it's WAYYYY amazing:)

Wow- way to go on all the training! I must be really lazy- because I have no desire to even exercise- even though I know I should. Cute pictures of the smoothies too- Brinley is so photogenic. AND.. 4 posts in 4 posts- how do you get it all done??

I'm so proud of you training for a triathlon! Speaking from someone who has donned that spandex suit - it is scary but when you see all of the people wearing them you are suddenly surprisingly comfortable in your form hugging atire!

You are doing a fantastic job at training...good for you--YOU CAN DO IT!

Like I said at JS.com...I bow to you and Tori for your endurance at training for a triathalon! Running has always been my nemesis! I'm a "walker!" :)

Okay so I didn't know you had JAMBA Juice connections!!! I need you to hook me up with our family favorite recipe. . . Strawberry Tsunami! I will try this one too as we are defintely smoothie junkies at our house and since there are 6 of us, the "real" things are a little out of budget!

Good job on the training too. . . And I think if you have the courage to do this you need to go for the spandex!!!

And that smoothie you made for me a few weeks is the real thing! Thanks for posting the recipe. I hope my cuisinart is up to the task!

I think I'll have to get some sherbet this week and try that recipe. I love that one too. Although my fave is the Orange Berry. A little tart and tangy - yum.
Your training schedule rocks! Do make sure you give yourself a resting day each week...not that I'm an expert tho.
